Impenetrable innocence

Today, in the aftermath of the Virginia Tech tragedy, I am thinking a lot about innocence: innocent victims, innocent families, innocent communities. The brutal attacks by a gunman would try to make me believe that the innocence of all these individuals has been stolen, eliminated, lost.

Can this really be so?

When I consider the quality of innocence, I naturally relate it back to Spirit. It seems to me that the divine nature of the One that created us all must include innocence and its sweet synonym, purity. Since each of us is created by the Divine then we must possess innocence. This is a fact, a permanent and eternal fact. Innocence is one of the many good qualities we possess as a spiritual creation of the One Spirit.

Like a sunbeam possesses only the essence of the sun, and nothing else, so do each of us possess the essence of the Divine.

Could anything or anyone take this innocence — this light — from any one of us since it was given to us by God? It would have to be something as equally as powerful as God. Since I believe with my whole heart that God is All-in-all, then that is an impossibility. Therefore, the innocence of every victim, their families and the Virginia Tech community must be untouchable, impenetrable, intact.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you:” (Romans 6:14)

But… where are they right now?

As a ray of light can never be separated from its source, neither can the victims be separated from their source of life. They are right where they have always been: loved, comforted and protected by the Father and Mother of us all. Their spiritual natures are untouched by anything not created by God.

We do not see them anymore, but this does not mean their spiritual natures are lost to them….or to us. Are they in our hearts? Oh yes, forever. Then they are our forever sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends. And we are all together, at this moment, in heaven.

HEAVEN: Harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul. (Science and Health 587:25)
